Construction underway for Texas City master-planned community
A massive master-planned community in Texas City is gearing up for sales.
Presale and model home construction has started within two gated sections of Lago Mar, according to a release. Houston developer Land Tejas Cos. is behind the 2,033-acre project that’s expected to house about 4,400 families. It is Land Tejas’ first southeast Houston community. The development straddles Interstate 45 at Holland Road, about 14 miles north of Galveston.
Sugar Land-based Westin Homes has started presales, and models are expected to open in November. The community is zoned to Dickinson Independent School District, and there are plans for a new elementary and middle school in the area.
“We are very excited to have this well-respected homebuilder building homes in the first sections of Lago Mar,” Jennifer Keller, president and COO of Land Tejas, said in the release. “We feel the quality construction and family-friendly designs this builder have to offer will really help make Lago Mar a special place.”
In June, Land Tejas had finished developing about half of the first phase, which amounts to about 520 homes. The entire community will eventually include about 4,400 homes.
Developers are building master-planned communities across the eastern swath of Houston, where the new Grand Parkway, the petrochemical boom and the medical sector are driving demand for new housing. Experts from the Urban Land Institute and Metrostudy have called the east side of Houston, particularly the northeast quadrant, a “sleeping giant” that’s just now starting to stir with new residential activity.
